Update #1: Traitors & Tyrants Draft 5 Revisions

Posted October 16, 2019 by Stephanie in Writing / 0 Comments

I’m not really sure where I last left y’all with an update so in case anyone was wondering, I am still working on Traitors & Tyrants. 😂

At this point it will probably haunt me in my grave if I don’t finish it. But I’m very hopeful. I wanted to have revisions done or nearly done by now but… plans change I guess.

Right now, I’m trying to finish a chapter a day for the rest of the month. I’m finding it very unlikely that I will finish revisions for it by November so for now I am planning on it being my NaNoWriMo novel at least for part of the month. This will be the 3rd time it has been a NaNo project for me.

Third time’s the charm right?

But what if I finish it before November?

Well, if I have finished T&T by then, I will reward myself with my vampire comedy, Kevin.

Man… I just typed that and now I feel REALLY motivated to get T&T done. Is that all I needed all this time?

I’ve been thinking a lot about my writing the last few days and I really need to kick it into high gear. Now is one of the best times to really be focusing on it. I’m not working right now. It’s just me taking care of my house (which does need organizing) and my puppy right now. I have time to write.

So I’m going to take advantage of it.

To help me stay on track I’ll be providing daily updates on Twitter featuring my stats for the previous day’s progress. So you’ll get how many words were proofed/revised, if I created any chapters/how many, etc. In case twitter isn’t your thing, I’ll also be checking in here on the blog with the stats every few days or so and let you know how things are going.

October 17th – Day 1

Words Proofed: 11,363

Chapters Created: 2

Chapters Proofed: 2 (this is the original number before any additional chapters were created)

Chapters Revised: 0

Draft Total: 59,845 words

Traitors & Tyrants is 19% completed

How am I feeling about things so far?

Well, revisions for day 1 were time consuming but super easy. I’d already done most of the work for these two chapters previously and it was mostly about just fixing typos in them or any clumsy wording. I did realize that chapter 1 was almost 7K words so I had to split that at least in half. I wanted to split it more but it just felt more natural to cut them in half. So they’re a bit long but that’s okay.

Chapter 3 is where I really get into things this month. It’s approximately 3K words, but I keep just reminding myself that although the chapter is by no means short, I’m going to be over 20% done with the revisions after it’s completed. I’m really trying to discipline myself and just get this done. I’m tired of saying I’m going to do this and then not doing it. It’s time to show up for myself.

Plus, I REALLY want to draft Kevin.
