To wrap up Week of Couples, I’ve decided I’d take the leap and choose my top six favorite fictional couples. But wait a second, I’m not taking the easy way out. I’m going to put them in order from least to greatest favorite (as far as I can’t like one of my top six at least). And, to accompany each couple, I’ll give you one (*cough* maybe) of my favorite quotes with them.
As a note, I’d just like to say, this was an evil idea. To all the bloggers out there, I sympathize with you if you’ve ever done this. Putting them in order from least to greatest? That really killed me. It was really hard because my loyalties to all of these authors made me want to give the couples higher ranks.
Making it to the top six is pretty amazing though. So, to any authors out there who may be reading this, if your couple is here and one of the lower numbers, don’t feel bad, I love them all almost equally so they’re all just smidges away from number one anyway.
6. Scarlet & Wolf from Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
“I knew they would kill me when they found out, but…” He struggled for words, releasing a sharp breath. “I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you.” [Wolf]
5. Lenzi & Alden from Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey
Because I can’t decide between these quotes, I’ll give you two.
“Maybe you should mind your own business.’ [Lenzi]
‘You are my business. My job. You are what I do.’ [Alden]
I whipped around to face him. ‘Well if I’m your job, your fired. You creep me out.” [Lenzi]
“. . . I love the school uniform. You have great legs.” [Alden]
“Shut up!” I gasped. “I thought you were an old man!” [Lenzi]
“Old soul. Young man. Big difference. . . ” [Alden]
4. Chord & West from Dualed by Elsie Chapman
“He leans down, his dark eyes simmering, and kisses me until neither of us wants to come up for air. Only the ringing of the bell tears us apart.
“Damn bell,” he says softly. He places his hand along the scar that rides my face from temple to chin. A slash of purple, it’s never going to disappear. But it doesn’t bother me.”
3. Tris & Four from Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
Again, I couldn’t choose between these two quotes (and I stopped looking after I found the second one) so here’s two for Tris & Four.
“I have something I need to tell you,” he says. I run my fingers along the tendons in his hands and look back at him. “I might be in love with you.” He smiles a little. “I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.”
“That’s sensible of you,” I say, smiling too. “We should find some paper so you can make a list or a chart or something.”
I feel his laughter against my side, his nose sliding along my jaw, his lips pressing my ear.
“Maybe I’m already sure,” he says, “and I just don’t want to frighten you.”
I laugh a little. “Then you should know better.”
“Fine,” he says. “Then I love you.” – Divergent
“I’m not important. Everyone will do just fine without me,” I say.
“Who cares about everyone? What about me?” -Insurgent
2. Dante & Abby from The Hourglass Door Trilogy by Lisa Mangum
“Then think of this as an adventure.” I kissed his cheek. “So which flower should I be?”
He curled me close to his chest, nuzzling his face into my hair. “Mmmm, can’t you be all of them? My own bouquet of beauty? Like daisies opening their friendly petals.” He brushed his fingertips over my eyelids. “Or marigolds that burn like the summer sun.” He rubbed his hands over my back. “Or orchids-rare and exotic.” He traced a finger across my collarbone down to rest lightly on the locket I wore all the time. “Roses for passion.” He kissed me.” -The Hourglass Door
1. Jace & Clary from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
And, we’ve reached number one. Yeah, I’m a little predictable. Since I love Jace & Clary so much, I’ll indulge myself….
“There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.” -City of Ashes
“And now I’m looking at you,” he said, “and you’re asking me if I still want you, as if I could stop loving you. As if I would want to give up the thing that makes me stronger than anything else ever has. I never dared give much of myself to anyone before – bits of myself to the Lightwoods, to Isabelle and Alec, but it took years to do it – but, Clary, since the first time I saw you, I have belonged to you completely. I still do. If you want me.” -City of Glass
“You could have had anything else in the world, and you asked for me.”
She smiled up at him. Filthy as he was, covered in blood and dirt, he was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen.
“But I don’t want anything else in the world.” -City of Glass
“You’re just worried they’ll hire a male instructor and he’ll be hotter than you.”
Jace’s eyebrows went up. “Hotter than me?”
“It could happen,” Clary said, “You know, theoretically.”
“Theoretically the planet could suddenly crack in half, leaving me on one side and you on the other, forever and tragically parted, but I’m not worried about that either. Some things,” Jace said, with his customary crooked smile, “are just too unlikely to dwell upon.” –City of Fallen Angels
